AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) – Texas’ largest online retailer, St. Johns, is selling its flagship St. Patrick’s Day event merchandise and has added several new items, including t-shirts and apparel, in response to growing interest in the holiday.
The retailer has been among a number of U.S. retailers including Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.
N) to open online sales in response, including in stores and on social media.
St. Johns posted Thursday that it was accepting preorders for the first of three new products, including a t-shirt with a St. Pats headshot and a hat with a picture of the iconic blue and yellow cap.
It said it also was accepting orders for other merchandise including shirts and hats.
The company, which is owned by a Texas-based real estate investment trust and is based in Fort Worth, said it had also announced a partnership with The Craftsman Group, which specializes in handcrafts and apparel.
The retailer, which has more than 8,000 locations in 24 states, said on its website that it had sold about $2.4 billion worth of goods and services during the holiday season so far, a figure that it said would likely grow to $3 billion by the end of the year.
“With the holiday in full swing, the opportunity to sell a variety of merchandise is growing at a rapid pace,” said Robyn L. Sorenson, St Johns president and CEO.
“We’re confident that we can continue to provide the best in customer service, while creating more revenue and more opportunities for our customers.”
St. Johns has added a new merchandise page on its St.
Patrick’s Day website with photos of a variety St. Patricks Day items and has been selling St. Kitts and Nevis-themed t- shirts.
The new St. Paul’s Day t- shirt has the image of a St Patrick and a St Paul’s star on the front and a star on a shield on the back, the St. Mary’s Day holiday and the St Johns logo.
The other new St Patricks items include the t- tee, a black T-shirt that has the St Patrick’s shield printed on the inside, a white shirt with St. Andrew’s star printed on one side and a blue T- shirt with the St Patrician’s headprint printed on top.

St. Matthews, the retailer’s largest store in Texas, is scheduled to open its first St. Patty’s Day store on April 25, and St. Joe’s Catholic School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has scheduled a March 23 service at the school, said Melissa Crouch, a spokeswoman for the school.
In addition to the online sales, St John’s has been working with local businesses to promote St. Thomas More Church.
On Tuesday, St Matthews announced plans to host a “St. Paul Day Party” for students and their families.
The company said it has also begun hosting a community event for St. Peter and St Paul, the patron saints of the Catholic Church.
On Wednesday, St Peters announced plans for a “Blessings for St Patrick” event for April 26.
It is also hosting a “Saint Paddy’s Day” event on Thursday for St Thomas More students.
Crouch said St Matthews and St Peters were working together on plans to add more St. Martin’s Day events to their website.
“We will be adding events to our site over the next several days,” she said.
